SPACE Receives Midwest Arts/NEA Gig Grant to work with Gaslight Playhouse Community Theater

SPACE is excited to announce a Arts Midwest / NEA Grant collaboration with Gaslight Playhouse. The artists of SPACE, Cecilie Keenan, Teresa Lee and Tanya White, are gearing up to conduct a four-day Devising Workshop followed by a public presentation and talkback.  Devising is a way to create theater from scratch with who is in the room. Exercises and theater games for writing and movement, allow all participants to be a part of the creation. Devising Theater addresses a question or a topic and is often used to create works that are responsive to a community. The artists of Gaslight wanted to begin the journey of creating their own work. The grant from the Arts Midwest /NEA has allowed SPACE to travel to Indiana. SPACE has a goal of creating a community event in each location where we have a SPACE. Other events SPACE is planning include, readings of new plays in botanical settings and music jam sessions to aid hurricane victims in Tennessee and North Carolina.

Following the Kendallville  presentation, a short reception will be held for all attendees. All activities will take place at the Community Learning Center in Kendallville in April. 10th – 13.

Gaslight Playhouse, the Community Theater of Noble County, is interested in creating and presenting original works. Future productions and short presentations would be devised to help address community interests and concerns. Devising a performance seeks to ask questions but generally it is not there to provide answers. This method often leads to lively discussions around sensitive topics within a community.  For more information on Gaslight Playhouse, go to:

Gaslight Playhouse

Gaslight Playhouse, Inc. is Noble County’s oldest community theatre and always seeks new talent to participate in the organization. The organization offers opportunities to be on the stage, behind the scenes (lighting, sound, orchestra, etc.), or sitting in the audience enjoying the production. In short, come and join their troupe, and keep up with what they have going on each season!
