SPACE has added a new, well for want of a better word....
SPACE

With our newest host, SPACE finds SPACE in Berkeley Hills California. Pamela Gaye Walker, has an airy studio with all the amenities needed for a playwright to live and work. High atop the Berkeley Hills is a studio in the trees with hiking trails all around. Our first writer at this SPACE is Jennie Webb, from Los Angeles. Webb will stay in residence for a week in February and plans to hold a table read of her newest work. Jennie is the co-founder and editor-at-large of the Los Angeles Female Playwrights Initiative (LAFP) and is an independent writer, dramaturg and playwright. Webb describes her work as “Domestic Absurdism”. Jennie’s impressive bio can be found at: jenniewebb.com.
Amazingly, this residency marks our third since launching in June of 2024. Now three writers have taken advantage of a time and SPACE to create. The first two residents, Lisa Dillman of Kalamazoo/Chicago and MT Cozzola of Chicago had great experiences during their writing residency. Both writers are doing fabulous work. Lisa will open No Such Thing at Rivendell Theatre in Chicago on March 22nd. For tickets and info, go to: rivendelltheatre.org/nosuchthing. MT just finished several readings of Murder in Residence at RedTwist and is currently putting finishing touches to a draft of their Novel.
MORE WRITERS
All this activity leades us to believe Spring is just around the corner, and SPACE is looking for writers who are interested in a residency. Kimmell Indiana is only 3 hours from Chicago and is still looking for the perfect fit for May, June, Sep or October. Mid-summer and mid-winter weather can be a bit uncomfortable in the ‘tiny’ houses. Contact us at admin@spacetowrite.org if you are interested in a residency or see spacetowrite.org/contact us.
SPACE FINDS SPACE
Currently, Supporting Playwrights and Creative Expression (SPACE) is looking for a few more wonderful sites. In less than a year we have four beautiful SPACEs in Berkeley Hills California, Kimmell Indiana, Union Pier Michigan and Trade Tennessee. SPACE is seeking SPACE in the Southwest, Pacific Northwest and Northeast to help serve writers in all parts of the country. If you know of a property with a tiny house, rehabbed living area or separate apartment in a natural setting that might be interested in housing one playwright a year for 3-14 days, let us know. admin@spacetowrite.org. We ask that each space be at least 50% female owned and have sleeping, living and working area for the writer. SPACE finds SPACE will happen, could it be YOU? who finds our next one?
