Berkeley Retreat – Berkeley California

Environment

High up in the Berkeley Hills find a peaceful retreat and a neighborhood that offers spectacular vistas of the San Francisco Bay, scenic wooden enclaves, famous residential architecture (notably by Bernard Maybeck), a lush and gorgeous network of curving streets, pedestrian shortcuts, and secret routes, and a vibrant intellectual community. Blocks away is the beautiful Tilden Park with views of San Francisco, Alcatraz, and Golden Gate.

SPACE

The Southwest themed private mini suite with impressive views from multiple sides, includes an office workspace and outdoor patio. This very private suite has a queen size sofa bed. Other guest bedrooms with solid beds are available but are in less private areas of the home. Also included is a minifridge and microwave and an extensive library, so a writer has all they need to be content. The house is a shared space with the hosts, and includes respectful use of fully stocked kitchen, multiple outdoor writing spaces and a hot tub.

Where you Are

Our location in Berkeley, overlooks all three bridges in the San Franciso area and if your hamstrings are good, you can walk to many trails within minutes of the house. Tilden Regional Park, Berkeley Rose Garden, Codornices Park all are about 20 min away by foot. This SPACE is up in the hills and as such, is far from grocery stores and retail, so a writer with a car is recommended but not required.

Your Host

Pamela Walker, your host, has been working in theater and dance for most of her life as an actor, writer, singer and creator. She shares the space with actor/producer husband John and two small dogs. Having worked in theater for many years, they both feel it is a duty to give back. Pamela is particularly interested in supporting fellow women artists. Her space is also open to readings if a writer would like to host a table read there is room. As with all SPACEs Pam will work with the artist to make their stay the most conducive and creatively juicy.  The family would be in the house however meals are not provided. While a shared meal might be offered, groceries are brought in by the artist for their own needs. A glass of red wine is often available on the patio.
